One hint: if the COM port for the stepRocker USB did not get closed properly, you can do the following:

- Close all applications that had a connection to it

- Switch off and the stepRocker, wait some seconds and then switch on again. This resets the driver, and after that it mostly works properly again.

I want to report that having gone through the installation guide it still did not want to install the +.inf file. Then I simply went on executing the *.exe file that came and could then download the .hex file onto the StepRocker. Than I was finally able to have under lpt and con the Steprocker device displayed.

May be just as a side comment. If the the GUI and the IDE are not properly closed, the .com port stays open making it necessary to restart the PC! otherwise the tool is great! I am going now into implementing the magnetic encode using the 14 bit one from ams.com. sadly there is no inexpensive board equivalent to the StepRocker to the magnetic encoder as used in the modules at Trinamic

If it really should be a device that has been shipped before mid of december 2011 (where the USB serial port emulation is not implemented) it should appear as a disk drive (like a USB stick) in Windows.

If this should be the case then please follow the update instructions given in the first stepRocker update pack. If not then something else might be wrong (maybe a hardware problem).

I have already asked having the problem to install the *.inf file for the steprocker. Following the instructions of Alberto I had met the same problems, but…

may be I have received a version where USB is not active. Because the StepRocker does not appear listed in the Hardware Panel. How can I get the latest software on the card?

Dear Stephan,

Today I have a couple of different questions for you regarding the stepRocker module.

The first is that I downloaded part of my IDE program to the module and by mistake I set Global Parameter 81 to "2" protection against overwriting, thinking that I the owner could disassemble and complete the program, but it happens that I cannot. There's got to be a way to rewrite the code in the module or it has to be thrown away. I need your help.

My second question is that I want to use the limit switches just to change their logical state from 0 to 1 & viceversa when they are pressed and released and based on this values make decissions of specific movements of the motors, I do not need to use them as reference switches. I tryed to read Axis Parameters "10" & "11" by setting Axis Parameters "12" &"13" to 1 but it does not work, the only thing I can get the motor to do is to move continuosly to the right when I keep preessing one switch, but if I press the other switch absolutly nothing happens. I need your help here as well.

Thank you very much.

Best regards

Hello Alberto,

thank your for the information on the driver installation.

Regarding your supply: you need to adjust your power supply to supply exactly the voltage you need.

The stepRocker does not provide any mechanism to regulate the connected voltage up or down.

The voltage you connect to the main power input is used as motor supply voltage.

You can adjust the maximum motor current via the TMCL parameter but not the voltage.

Best regards,

Stephan

Hello Stephan,

Well what I did was to put the .INF file as a direct access on the desktop. Then in the control panel I double clicked the "TMCM-1110 stepRocker" device, then "hardware", then "properties" and then under the "driver" tab I selected "update driver software for device". Finally I was question for the location of the software and answered "desktop" then the system installed the driver and I have not had any connection problem ever since.

I hope that is helpfull.

I have another question that I cannot solve by myself. Ok, I am using a stepper motor that requires a motor supply voltage of 2.1V * 8 = 16.8 Volts , I am using a power supply of 22.2 Volts that is within the limits of the stepRocker module, now is there a way to make the supply to the motor 16.8 Volts which is the optimum recommended by the motor manufacturer. I have been looking through the Parameters specified in the manuals and I do not find one to set the motor supply voltage.

I hope somebody can help me with this. Thanks very much.

Regards

Hello Alberto,

thank you for the feedback.

Can you please post the information on the driver installation procedure for Windows 7 / 64 bit?  This is a questions we sometimes hear from users.

This way, the community can benefit from your success and experience.

Thank you.

Regards,
Stephan

Dear Stephan,

I tried your recomendation yesterday and again this morning and Windows gives me an error message that says " The INF file selected is not compatible with this method of installation".

Do you think you could send me a file that is compatible, the file that I have I obtained it from two sources trinamic.com page (stepRocker) and stepRockerFWUpdatePackV101.zip and the driver from the trinamic page does not even give me the option to install.

I hope you can sent me a good file by e-mail. Thanks very much

Hello Stephan,

The driver has been installed correctly now, I had to follow some Windows recommendations and finally the system installed the driver. Thank you much anyway.

Hello Alberto,

yes, the driver is not properly installed.

To install the .inf-file, you usually need to right-click on the file. Windows recognizes this as a driver file and in the context-menu you can now choose "Install".

Best Regards,

Stephan

I am trying to work with the stepRocker Module that I bought 2 weeks ago. I have connected all cables per manuals and have turned on the module. I get the orange LED and yelow LED POSCOMP on continuosly and LED1 blinking. The control panel of my computer recognizes the device but says that there is no driver installed. I have checked all manuals and in the getting started manual it does say that the driver (file: TMCM-1110.inf) has to be installed. Ok this file is a text file and I have no idea of how to install this file.

The TMCL-IDE Program does not recognize the module and I have to input it manually but then I try to give an instruction in direct mode and I get an error message that says no module response.

I guess the driver must be installed, but could anybody tell me how because I have not seen instructions of how to do this anywhere.

My computer uses Windows 7 64.

I would appreciate very much an answer that solves this problem, which I believe is probably very simple. Thanks very much.
